I found a GTI S yesterday by me, 2017 with 6300 miles. Today I found this 2016 GTI Autobahn with 15,500 miles on it about 60 miles from me. This is probably a better buy (Oppo GTI hive mind please help). Disclaimer, three wheels are rashed to the point I’d want them refinished and this dealers “online” price is about 2k less than the GTI S.

I think I’d go with the Autobahn, but lots of folks have had issues/complaints with the sunroof. If you don’t really want that sunroof, you might be better off with the S.
Regarding the wheels - the stock Austins are super easy to find second hand (since so many ppl upgrade them), I wouldn’t pay to have them refinished. I saw a set on the MK7 Fb group for something silly like $400.

Didn’t think they’d be that cheap. The wheels from the pics obviously met curbs before and I know a place that charges about 125/wheel to refinish them.
I really don’t like sunroofs..hell i never use them really. Do they just shit the bed here or just an overall nightmare?

“Refreshed” as in just buying a set of RPF1s instead?

Squeak and rattle. Sometimes the shiny black plastic trim around it will crack. My S3 has basically the same sunroof and it’s been fine, so take that for what it’s worth. It only gives a small groan when going in or out of my driveway, which has a significant lip causing a bit of chassis flex.

...it doesnt look as good as I thought it would

My favorite wheel setups on the MK7 are Pretorias, BBS CHR (I have those on my S3), and the VMR 710.

I have a 16 SE; which has
everything that car comes with, except the leather, auto climate and Nav.

Wrong: It’s these wheels I have for summer on my GTI

The sunroof will either absolutely be an unsolvable problem or not cause you one moment of stress for 100k miles . It’s one or the other. Mine was perfect in every way, but others have had real issues.
Other than that, the main difference is ACC. I had it for two years and 60k miles and I still don’t know how i feel about it. The crash avoidance is nice, though.
You can’t go wrong either way. I’d probably get the Autobahn, but if the other was a better color / interior / whatev, that’s still a good deal.

Looks like you’re also missing the lighting package.

Those look familiar - are they an OE VW wheel?

I upgraded my lights with Ed’s replicas, so I always forget that would have stock lights as standard.

If shopping used, definitely get the Autobahn version. It adds afew $k to the price on a new one, but slim to no $$$ on a used. Weird, but factual.
Just get a set of BBS wheels and good tires with the $2k you save on purchase price. Done.

Yes. They originally launched as 19s on the GTI Clubsport in Europe. VW now sells them as 18s on certain cars.
Mine are 18s I got on eBay; so who knows if they are knock-offs or the real thing just being sold without the VW badge/tax.

Gummi Pflege will solve most of the sunroof creaks and squeaking.

ACC?
The other is a ‘17 GTI S with plaid interior, non leather, pretty bare in comparison

1. Like it?
2. Any issues?
3. Has the sunroof driven you mad with rage?

1. Yes. It’s a fantastic, well rounded car. I’ve driven it from Dayton, Ohio, to Charlottesville, VA and then down to Charleston, SC and back over a 5-day trip. Aside from typical extended-driving aches from lack of movement, I never wished for a different car. I’ve done a HPDE at Mid-Ohio in it and had a ball. It is composed and well-sorted in both scenarios. Could it be livelier and a bi
t more spirited to drive? Yeah; but that might compromise the ease at which it can travel long distances. Finding that balance is extremely difficult. I think VW just about nailed it.
2. I’ve had issues with excess humidity in the car since I bought it. In the winter I occasionally will have ice form on the inside of the windows/windshield. I’ve tried to have my local dealer investigate, but they are worse than useless. They did the sunroof recall last winter, but it never got all that cold to make it much of an issue in the car again. I am going to have my wife make me some desiccant-filled plaid socks (because they match my plaid seats) to keep moisture at lower levels. I haven’t really had any other serious issues to report thus far. I feel like my keys eat batteries too fast, but that’s a cheap and easy problem to solve.
3. Use that Gummi Pfledge I recommended in my other reply. It makes those creaks and squeaks go away for months. Other than occasionally having to fight with it to stay closed and not vented, I haven’t hated having a sunroof at all. And on really nice days, I love that I have it.

I also forgot that my SE does not have the adjustable suspension; which does make a significant impact on how the car feels over the road.
Nor would does it have the extra driver-safety stuff like radar cruise, etc.
And as pointed out, I do not have the upgraded factory headlights that come with the Autobahn trim level. I upgraded to aftermarket ones that I like better than the factory option anyway. But the “lighting package” is still a really good set of
headlights.

Adaptive Cruise Control. The Autobahn has the full drivers assistance package, I do believe.

While that $400 isn’t bad, LimitedTimeOnly has found it difficult to find people who actually sell them.

Really? Get on the Fb groups - it feels like I see them all the time in the MK7 and 5x112 groups.

It’s not difficult to find them, it’s difficult to find people in the realm of realism.

Just saw another set available on the MK7 Private Sales Fb group. $500 in NC.
